Fire Alarm Systems – Why is Maintenance Important?

If you are a business owner, you are likely snowed under with the many essential workings of your business. Only one of these things is a potential matter of life and death – maintaining your life safety systems.

As a business owner, you are legally obliged to maintain your life safety systems. These include;

  • Fire alarms
  • Emergency lighting
  • Disabled refuge
  • Fire extinguishers

A fire alarm must be serviced a MINUMUM of twice per annum.

If you have read this far, you will either be breathing a sigh of relief, knowing that you have been doing this, or you will be panicking trying to map when you last had a maintenance check done!

Don’t panic! We are here to help. To help combat some of our most frequently asked questions, we have compiled a Q&A below. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have a question or need assistance. Safety is our top priority, and a chat with us will cost you nothing but may save lives.

How do maintenance checks work? Do you have to sign a contract?

We work with a variety of businesses, big and small, and all of our costs are tailored to suit the needs of each individual customer. We usually recommend a two-year maintenance contract and we will take the worry out of your hands. We will schedule dates of checks and will manage all essential needs on our end, so it will be one less thing for a business owner to have on their ‘to-do’ list.

Can you take over the maintenance of systems installed by other people if necessary?

In short, yes. We will also give recommendations should your system need updating, but you are under no obligation to commit to these. We will maintain your system and make recommendations and if you decide to follow through with any of those, we will provide a free estimate on these.

What are the benefits of maintaining our life safety systems?

Aside from the legal requirements, maintenance will ensure you get the best performance out of your systems. It reduces the chances of unexpected errors, and prevents middle-of-night call-outs!
